BMED to cease being oneworld affiliate

27 mars 2007

oneworld affiliate BMED will withdraw from the global alliance in late October, following the purchase of the airline. BMED currently operates as a franchisee of British Airways.

The new owners have reached an agreement with BA that will see the franchise arrangements - through which oneworld affiliation is extended to BMED - continuing "for a transitionary period until the end of the summer 2007 timetable".

BMED is currently the only oneworld airline serving Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Almaty, Ankara, Baku, Bishkek, Ekaterinburg, Freetown, Tbilisi, Tehran and Yerevan. Services to Alexandria and Ekaterinburg will be maintained by oneworld recruits respectively Royal Jordanian and Malév Hungarian Airlines, which join the alliance at the end of this month.
